Issue
When you log-in to Methuselah you receive one of the following messages:
  • A connection to the EMS server could not be established. To connect to the EMS Server, verify that you are connected to your network or the internet then try again.
  • Loading Methuselah in Briefcase mode for offline use. If you are trying to connect to the server, please verify your network or internet connection then try again.
  • No valid license can be found, please contact your EMS/System Administrator
Causes
These issues are typically caused by processes that block Internet communications between your PC and the Web site where your user license is activated and periodically updated (EMS). In order to activate your user license, you need to have a live Internet connection the first time you log-in; and periodically afterward to download program updates and “refresh” your user license. Some common causes are as follows:
  • No Internet connection
  • Firewall settings are blocking a connection between the program and EMS
  • Proxy server settings are blocking a connection between the program and EMS
  • Things to try:To resolve this issue please try the following methods.
Method A - Verify Internet connectivity
Using your web browser make sure that you can successfully access the Internet by connecting to a Web site. If you cannot access another Web site, your Internet connection may not be working correctly and you might want to contact your Internet Service Provider or System Administrator for help. If you can successfully access another Web site, continue below.
Method B - Verify Internet connectivity with the EMS site
Using your web browser make sure that you can access the EMS sites by browsing to the sites listed below. If you cannot access the EMS sites then your system may be blocked by Internet security settings on your system. You might want to consult your System Administrator for help. If you can successfully access the EMS sites then continue with methods below.
Method C - Add the EMS sites to your firewall settings
Many computers today come with firewall software installed. Firewalls are designed to establish a trusted connection between your PC and network resources, including those on the Internet. One way firewalls can do this is to block an application from utilizing your network unless it is on an "allowed" list, and to block an application from accessing particular Web sites such as the EMS sites listed above. If this is the case with your PC, you will need to add the program or the EMS sites to the "allowed" list.
Many personal PCs come with one of the following firewalls: Microsoft® Windows® Firewall, McAfee®, and Norton®. If you are using firewall software, consult the firewall’s help documentation to determine if communication between your PC and the EMS sites is properly allowed by your Firewall.
In some cases it is possible that your router can have a firewall built into it. In that case, consult the router documentation to properly configure the firewall for communication between your PC and the licensing web sites.
Add the EMS sites to the list of "allowed" sites in your firewall:
Method D - Add the EMS sites to your list of proxy server exceptions
If you are using a proxy server to connect to the Internet the proxy server may be affecting the communication between your PC and the EMS site. One way to resolve this is to bypass the proxy server when launching the program, by adding the EMS sites to the "exceptions" list of your proxy server.
Add the EMS sites to the "exceptions" list in your Proxy Server settings.
One way to do this:
  1. Click Start then Run and then in the Run prompt enter inetcpl.cpl and click OK.
  2. Click the Connections tab and then on this tab click LAN Settings.
  3. Click Advanced
  4. Under Exceptions enter the following:

If you have determined you are not using a firewall or proxy server, or that these devices are properly configured and your PC site still doesn’t connect to the license activation web site, please contact Customer Support for further assistance.
