Methuselah:Transferring client files between computers

From UngerKnowledgeBase

In some situations, you might need to transfer client data between your own copy of Methuselah and yours or a colleague’s copy at another location. To transfer data from your copy of Methuselah to another, you can attach the client file to an email message or an external drive, and your colleague then imports the client file into his or her copy of Methuselah. If instead you receive data from your colleague, you would import his or her client file.

You can find the client file to transfer as follows
  1. In the menu bar in Methuselah, select Tools > Preferences > File Settings
  2. In the Files Settings screen, click Go to Folder, and the default folder where client files are stored will open.
  3. Find the client file you want to transfer and attach it to email or copy it to an external drive.
You can open client files from another copy of Methuselah in two ways
  • Import – use this for new client files that you are opening for the first time in your copy of Methuselah.
  • Copy and then Open – use this is you have an earlier version of the client file in your copy of Methuselah.
To import a client file...
  1. In Methuselah, select File > Import…
  2. In the Importing Client Files screen, select Import one client file, and then click OK.
  3. In the Import Methuselah MVP Files dialog, select the client file you want to import, and then click Open to run the import process.
  4. The Import process will search your client list to see if a version of file already exists on your computer.
  5. Example, file already in client list

Example, file already in client list
If the file is found in your client list then it will not be imported and a message that the file is already in your list is shown. To transfer an existing client file, see "To copy and then open a client file..." below.
  6. If the file is not found in your client list, then the Import process will perform these actions: The client file is copied to the default folder where client files are stored on your computer, then the file is added to your list of client files, and then for backup purposes the extension of the original file will be changed to ".org".
  7. When the process is finished a confirmation prompt is shown.
To copy and then open a client file...
  1. In Windows, open the folder where the earlier version of client file is stored.
  2. Copy the newer version of the client file over the older one. Note: you can backup the older version of the client file by renaming it first.
  3. In Methuselah, select File > Open > Client, and select the client in the list.
